الخاصية الأساسية لسلاسل ماركوف: احتمال الحالة التالية يعتمد فقط على الحالة الحالية ولا يتأثر بأي حالة سابقة. بمعنى آخر، المستقبل مستقل عن الماضي بشرط معرفة الحاضر.

The defining property of Markov chains: the probability of the next state depends only on the current state and is independent of all earlier states. In other words, the future is independent of the past given the present.
