دراسة لشايفر وميراندا وكويجو (نيوريبس 2023) تُشكِّك في «القدرات الطارئة» للنماذج اللغوية الكبيرة، إذ ترى أن القفزات الحادّة تنشأ من اختيار مقاييس غير خطية أو متقطّعة، وأن التحوّل إلى مقاييس مستمرة يُظهر تحسّناً سلساً ومتوقّعاً مع الحجم.

A 2023 NeurIPS paper by Schaeffer, Miranda, and Koyejo challenging the notion of 'emergent abilities' in large language models, arguing that apparent sharp jumps arise from the researchers' choice of nonlinear or discontinuous metrics, and that switching to continuous metrics reveals smooth, predictable improvement with scale.
