أقصر مسافة من نقطة إلى خط أو مستوى، تُقاس بزاوية قائمة. هي المعيار الذي استخدمه بيرسون بدلاً من المسافات الرأسية التقليدية.

The shortest distance from a point to a line or plane, measured at a right angle. The criterion Pearson used instead of conventional vertical distances.
